RAAF Base Wagga

Welcome to RAAF Base Wagga; a thriving and active base of approximately 1600 proud and dedicated ADF (students, reserve and permanent staff), civilians, and contractors, all working towards ensuring we deliver the highest quality graduate and post-graduate ground training for Air Force, Army and Navy. We also have about 300 families living and enjoying Wagga and the surrounding region.

RAAF Base Wagga is ‘The Home of the Airmen’.

RAAF Base Wagga is committed to tri-Service graduate and post-graduate training for all ranks, the base has increased its scope for training with overseas visitors and students under the Defence Cooperation Program, the Indigenous Pre-Recruit Program and the Air Force Gap Year training program.

Wagga is also the home of both Headquarters Ground Training Wing and Headquarters RAAF College, ensuring training delivered by their schools satisfies Defence capability needs. RAAF Wagga delivers the technical and non-technical initial employment and postgraduate training that is fundamental to the delivery of military air and space power in support of national objectives. The combined responsibilities extend to 12 RAAF locations and two Army bases, offering 256 different training courses, with about 4,000 graduates per year.

RAAF Base Wagga has been integrated within the local Wagga Wagga community since 1940. RAAF Base Wagga and its members assist with defence aid in times of need and provide work experience and visit opportunities. RAAF Base Wagga also provides support to local charities to the benefit of the Wagga community.

RAAF Wagga supports two key headquarters of Wings from Air Force Training Group; RAAF College and Ground Training Wing; along with four major training units; No 1 Recruit Training Unit (1RTU), School of Postgraduate Studies (SPS), RAAF School of Technical Training (RAAFSTT), and the RAAF School of Administration and Logistics Training (RAAFSALT).

Non-training units on the base are: No 31 (City of Wagga Wagga) Squadron, No 1 Security Force Squadron Detachment Wagga (1SECFORSQN Det WAG), Wagga Health Centre (WAGHC) and No 1 Expeditionary Health Squadron detachment Wagga(1EHS Det WAG). Their primary role is to support training conducted by the four major training units on RAAF Wagga.

The Royal Australian Air Force’s RAAF Base Wagga, in NSW’s Riverina region, is referred to as the ‘Home of the Airman’ due to the presence of Air Force recruit and trade training schools for airmen.
