Welcome to RAAF Base Wagga.
RAAF Base Wagga is known as the ‘Home of the Airman’, as the base is responsible for delivering Air Force Recruit training, as well as technical and non-technical Initial and Post Employment Training to both airwomen and airmen.
The Base comprises of approximately 1,600 Australian Defence Force, civilian and contracted personnel, all working towards delivering the highest quality of ground training for Air Force, Army and Navy. The Base also delivers the Indigenous Pre-Recruit and Air Force Gap Year programs, and training to international students under the Defence Cooperation Program.
The newly formed Headquarters Ground Academy (HQGA), an amalgamation of Ground Training Wing and RAAF College, is responsible for delivering Air Force’s ground training programs. The Ground Academy achieves this mandate by ensuring that training delivered by ground training units satisfies Defence capability needs including quality of courseware development, conduct of training, and evaluating the effectiveness of training.
In addition to HQGA, RAAF Base Wagga accommodates four major training units: No 1 Recruit Training Unit (1RTU), School of Postgraduate Studies (SPS), RAAF School of Technical Training (RAAFSTT), and the RAAF School of Administration and Logistics Training (RAAFSALT).
These are supported by the non-training support elements of No 1 Security Force Squadron Detachment Wagga (1SECFORSQN DET WAG), Wagga Health Centre (WAGHC) and No 1 Expeditionary Health Squadron Detachment Wagga (1EHS DET WAG). Their primary roles are to support training through the provision of health and security services. No 31 (City of Wagga Wagga) Squadron (31SQN), a Combat Support Group unit, provides airbase operations capability and military coordination for RAAF Base Wagga.
The Estate and Infrastructure Group (E&IG) Service Delivery Wagga team manages and coordinates the commercial and domestic support services that are delivered internally or through the Base Service Contract provider. The Service Delivery Wagga team works collaboratively with units, support elements, residents, contractors and sub-contractors to enable Defence to meet its training objectives at RAAF Base Wagga.
RAAF Base Wagga is an integral part of the local community since 1940 and has supported local charities and the business community while providing Defence aid in times of need.
