RAAF Wagga Welfare was established to assist with providing welfare services or activities administered at a base level. The Welfare Committee has a range of equipment for hire and supports a number of clubs at RAAF Wagga as well as the Base Library.
The Airmen’s Club is divided into two bar areas: the Scherger Bar and the Oasis Bar. The Airmen’s Club caters for serving members of the ADF of the rank of Corporal (or Equivalent) and below who are on posting or attached to a unit located at RAAF Base Wagga.
The Snow Sports Club is located behind (or northern end) of the Airmen’s Club and is only open during the snow season. The club organises a number of trips to Falls Creek each year and has a range of snow equipment for hire.
RAAF Base Wagga hosts a recreational car club otherwise known as ‘Mechanical Mayhem’. The club’s objective is to promote the restoration, maintenance, safe use and display of vehicles and motorcycles, bringing people together in a friendly environment. The club is located in Hangar 184 and has a range of mechanical tools available to assist in vehicle maintenance. The club caters for all levels of skill and experience. All are welcome to come to the hangar to meet the friendly crew and to check out the club’s Facebook page (‘Mechanical Mayhem Car Club’).
The Welfare Committee offers a store for the hire of equipment which is located in Hangar 184 and is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1215-1300h (by appointment only). Items for hire include camping gear, canoes, golf clubs, push bikes and more.
RAAF Base Wagga Welfare owns a cabin at the Bright Freeburgh Caravan Park in the small township of Freeburgh near Bright, Victoria. The cabin has two bedrooms and one bathroom and can sleep a maximum of eight people (one queen bed, two bunk beds and one fold out lounge). The cabin is available all year round at an affordable rate.
The Welfare Committee supports the annual RAAF Wagga Christmas Treat which provides an exciting day for Base members and their families. There are rides and activities planned as well as a visit from Santa and presents for every child. It’s a great day for all.
The RAAF, Army and Navy Community House (RANCH) is an on-base facility that can be booked for official and non-official functions. The RANCH can provide a fresh environment to make presentations, instruct courses, have a section lunch or hold mentor sessions. Bookings are essential. The RANCH hosts a ‘Parents and Bubs’ playgroup on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The RANCH has also been known to host a Jam time session for anyone who likes to play an instrument.
